What is low-level laser therapy (LLLT)?

LLLT is a non-invasive light source treatment that generates a single wavelength of light. It emits no heat, sound, or vibration.

Effects of LLLT

  1. Reduction of inflammation
  2. Pain relief
  3. Accelerated tissue regeneration

Conditions that are treated include:

  1. Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis.
  2. Disc herniation
  3. Tendonitis
  4. Reduction of volume and pain in lymphedema

What does research say?

A 2017 systematic review and meta-analysis from Clijsen et al. found that LLLT is an effective treatment modality to reduce pain in senior and older adult patients with musculoskeletal disorders. They also noted that adherence to the World Association of Laser Therapy (WALT) dosages improved the effectiveness.
